Theme: Roots and Horizons – Bridging Tradition with Tomorrow’s Innovations in TESOL

Plenary Address: Dr. Betsy Gilliland, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa

This year’s conference theme is “Roots and Horizons – Bridging Tradition with Tomorrow’s Innovations in TESOL.” In line with this theme, we are honored to host Dr. Betsy Gilliland from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, who will deliver a plenary address on the importance of action research in teacher development. Dr. Gilliland has edited and authored multiple publications focused on teacher development and action research, across multiple contexts. The conference promises a plethora of discussions, both rooted in tradition and oriented towards the future. We invite proposals that report on work that has explored any aspect of the conference theme.

Proposal Submission

As always, Hawai‘i TESOL looks forward to offering a diverse and rewarding program of sessions:

  1. 20-minute Quick Share: A 15-minute presentation on an idea, strategy, tool, or update on research or teaching projects, followed by a 5-minute Q&A
  2. 40-minute Paper: A 30-minute presentation of a paper addressing any practical or theoretical aspect of language teaching or research, followed by a 10-minute Q&A
  3. 40-minute Workshop: A hands-on demonstration of any practical aspect of language teaching
  4. 40-minute Panel Discussion: A panel to discuss current issues in TESOL education
  5. Poster Session: A poster presentation of a teaching practice or research finding to informally share with participants at a designated time 

Your proposal must include the following information (listed in the following order):

    2. department
    3. institutional affiliation
    4. country and state
    5. e-mail address
  2. Your co-presenter(s)’ contact information (if applicable)
  3. Title of the presentation (maximum 10 words)
  4. Presentation category:
    1. 20-minute Quick Share
    2. 40-minute Paper
    3. 40-minute Workshop
    4. 40-minute Panel Discussion
    5. Poster Session
  5. A summary of the presentation (maximum of 50 words) for the conference program
  6. An abstract (maximum of 250 words) with a brief background description of the topic and a synopsis of the presentation that explains its:
    1. purpose
    2. benefit to participants
    3. intended target audience
    4. level of audience participation (i.e. none, question/answer, or highly interactive)
    5. methodology
  7. 40-word biographical note to be used by the session moderator to introduce you

Proposals with incomplete or missing information will be excluded from consideration.

PROPOSAL DEADLINE EXTENDED: December 31, 2023

Notification of acceptance will be given by early January, 2024 

NOTE: We have a limited number of presentation slots for this conference. Preference will be given to qualified submissions received before the deadline.
